And if I rang
in his door?

JEAN-PAUL TEYSSIER

Brotherhood is the main topic of this number. It is also the one who was kept in France, this year, as " Big National Reason " .
Universal brotherhood, it is the purpose of Gandhi, of Martin Luther King, mother Teresa, today from Chiara Lubich, to name only some personalities. It is the novelty which Christ brought, by saying to us that we all have the same Father, that we are every brothers. It is, with freedom and equality, one of the ideals taken back in policy by French Revolution, the one whom until now we could most worse accomplish. It is a huge plan, in the dimensions of the world.
In the pages which follow, various research examples of brotherhood at the most various levels are developed. But me, editor or ordinary reader, in my everyday life, how can I take part in it ? How can I not only advocate brotherhood but practice it ?
I decide to look frankly in the bottom of me when I let it get ahead.
Often, I make him make place of on- :  We are every brothers. Eh, you, do not forget him, in my respect !  Yes, easy to ask others to live them.
Sometimes, I allow him to cross some metres : I turn to the one who is close to me, I am interested in what concerns him, and on this very much nice ground I announce it my ideal, brotherhood, and I explain him how we can live him ("Besides ", I say to him quietly and proudly, in my internal for, you surely pointed out that it is in that way that I, at instant, acted with you ). Subtly I try to introduce him into my domain, as though I was the owner of brotherhood. Two steps forward, two steps behind, instead of hatching she flies in brightness.
In the middle of this failure, a little voice elbows in in my head. If we are every brothers, you do not think that other one also has in its humanity the capacity to show itself your brother ? Perhaps you just have to ring in the door, then it is it who will be able to open you. Do you really think that he is your brother ? Where do you want to persuade him of an ideology which satisfies you ?
I realise at this moment that I pretend to play the role of the master, of  the one who knows how to make  . And if I tried to become every baby, to consider other one as more important than me ? Miss here is to go at home. While walking, I let the face become established in my mind, in my heart. I do not think any more of brotherhood, I lived only for my brother.
Here is which accepts me at home, makes me sit down, gives me what is fond of it of heart at this instant. What a surprise ! All his being speaks about brotherhood ! I only have to make as him, in my turn to deliver him my life from now.
I knew that we were brothers, but in this point, never I had imagined it.
